Behind the Scenes of Volunteering at Children’s Home

Ever wondered what it’s like to donate your time at Children’s Home?

Amanda has been a CHAIL volunteer for six months, so we sat down with her to learn more about her experience with us!

Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Amanda, I’m a Michigan native, who recently moved to the Peoria area. I have a four-year-old son and I’m also a dog mom. I love to hike, read, and travel!

What drew you to being interested in volunteering at Children’s Home?

I was looking to volunteer somewhere in the community, and I heard about the wonderful things Children’s Home does through a friend and knew I wanted to support them.

What do you do during your volunteer shift?

Children’s Home receives many in-kind (non-monetary) donations from community members. I help sort and organize toys, hygiene products, clothing, and other supplies so that the staff can easily locate items for any kids or families they serve. I also help with other organizational tasks, as well as getting things prepared for Children’s Home fundraisers and events.

Have you learned more about Children’s Home through volunteering here?

I’ve learned just how much Children’s Home does for the community. So much goes into making sure each youth and family is getting all their needs met!

Why should someone consider volunteering at Children’s Home?

The feeling you get when giving back is like no other! Children’s Home is full of amazing people, who are here for the right reasons. I would highly encourage anyone interested to give it a try – you won’t regret it.

Our mission at Children’s Home is to help the kids and families who need it the most and we’re always looking for incredible volunteers like Amanda to support our mission. Whether you’re looking for a single-day group opportunity, would like to spend time with us on a more regularly basis, or are interested in helping out at one of our special events or fundraisers – there a variety of options available. To learn more, reach out to our Volunteer and Community Engagement coordinator Danielle Cooley – we’d love to have you join us in changing the lives of the kids who will change the world!
