April at Children’s Home: A Month of Impact, Advocacy, and Family Support
April is a BIG month for Children’s Home and for child welfare agencies across the country. Several national awareness initiatives come together during this time, all emphasizing the importance of prevention, early intervention, family support, and inclusive care. Throughout April, we proudly recognize and celebrate the programs and people making a lasting difference in the lives of children and families.
National Child Abuse Prevention Month
Each April, National Child Abuse Prevention Month reminds us that protecting children starts long before harm occurs. Prevention is rooted in strong, supported families — and many of our programs are designed with that foundation in mind. Some ways we do this is through:
- And so much more
Our teams work daily to reduce risk, strengthen relationships, and ensure children grow up in safe, nurturing environments.
Every year, we aim to honor the work we are doing with our ‘Pinwheels for Prevention’ event. During this gathering, our Foster Care and Prevention teams invite staff and community partners to “plant” pinwheels to kick off Child Abuse Prevention Month, reminding us of the nurturing and stable environments we’re striving for all children!
Community Doula Week (March 29–April 5)
Community Doula Week celebrates doulas who play a critical role in advancing birth equity and supporting families throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.
Children’s Home doulas help new parents feel confident, informed, and supported during one of life’s most important transitions — improving outcomes for both parents and babies.

Home Visiting Week (April 20-24)
Home Visiting Week highlights one of the most effective approaches to supporting early childhood development and family stability. Our home visitors provide trusted guidance on:
- Child development milestones
- Health and safety
- Parent‑child bonding
- Family wellbeing
By meeting families in their own homes, our team builds strong, supportive relationships that help parents navigate challenges, celebrate successes, and create a strong foundation for their children from the very beginning.

Autism Awareness & Acceptance Month
Autism Awareness & Acceptance Month encourages us to embrace autistic individuals fully — recognizing their strengths, individuality, and the many ways they enrich our communities. Through Children’s Home Academy for Autism, we provide specialized education and behavioral health supports designed to help children on the autism spectrum thrive in environments that respect and celebrate their individual ways of learning and growing.

Together, We Celebrate a Month of Advocacy & Impact
This month reminds us of why our work matters — but we know that these commitments extend far beyond one month. Every day, Children’s Home:
- Nurture families,
- Protects children,
- Supports parents
- Promotes inclusion and neurodiversity
- embrace neurodiversity,
We are deeply grateful to our staff, partners, donors, volunteers, and community members who make this impact possible. Your support helps build a future where every child can grow, feel safe, and thrive.
